Welcome to the latest edition of European Ophthalmic Review, covering a variety of topics from all areas of ophthalmology. This edition features four articles within my specialty of retinal disease and imaging. Diabetic macular oedema (DMO) is the leading cause of vision loss in people of working age and recent advances in intravitreal pharmacotherapy have resulted in visual gains in the majority of patients. Ozturk, Harris and Mehta review clinical evidence for the use of intravitreal steroids in the management of DMO. However, laser treatment continues to play a role in the treatment of DMO, a topic I discuss in an expert interview. In addition, Turgut presents a review of terminology for retinal and choroidal structures seen in spectral domain optical coherence tomography. Finally, Donmez and Saatci discuss the use of intravitreal pharmacotherapy in retinitis pigmentosa-related cystoid macular oedema.
Submissions to our winter edition are now open and we invite members of the ophthalmic community to contribute salient reviews, research, case reports and editorials. Accepted articles are published on an open-access basis, both in print and online, and authors have the opportunity to publish accompanying multimedia content. Submissions can be made through our online submission system at www.editorialmanager.com/touchophth or by contacting the journal’s Managing Editor (nicola.cartridge@touchmedicalmedia.com).
The European Ophthalmic Review staff would like to thank all the contributors to this edition for their invaluable support and guidance. We hope you find the selection of articles in this edition stimulating and, as ever, we welcome feedback on any of the published articles. Enjoy!
