New York, NY – Glaucoma is life-changing. During Glaucoma Awareness Month this January, the Glaucoma Foundation (TGF) is bringing a spotlight to patients and others who are tackling this disease. How are they struggling? How are they thriving?
Each day of the month, TGF is posting a new message about living with glaucoma. “By highlighting their stories,” says TGF President and CEO Elena Sturman, “we aim to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and the need for ongoing research.” This campaign is sponsored by Bausch + Lomb.
It is estimated that over 4 million Americans have glaucoma but only half of them know they have it. With open-angle glaucoma, the most common form, there are usually no signs or symptoms. The only way to tell if you have glaucoma is to have a comprehensive eye exam with an eye care professional. Diagnosis is the first step to preserving your sight.
